The water resources department has been established in Ab va Mohitzist Paydar Sharif (ABOPA) Company to provide micro and macro water management services for water supply and demand sectors at different levels of water consumption (from the reservoirs which regulates water resources to water consumption points). In this regard, relying on the past projects experiences, the capabilities and knowledge of the experts and specialized professors, and dynamic communication with the relevant governmental and non-governmental institutions, ABOPA can cover a wide range of services such as:

  • Developing the rainfall and runoff forecasting models for the basins
  • Planning the optimal operation of the reservoirs
  • Investigating and conducting the feasibility study on the unconventional sources of water supply
  • Managing and developing of the surface and groundwater simulation models
  • Agricultural water demand management
  • Evaluating the modern irrigation efficiency
  • Undertaking the macro evaluation of inter-basin water transfer projects
  • Implementing the non-agricultural alternative livelihood programs
  • Evaluating the administrative legal framework in relation to water resource
  • Providing the water resources balance in the study areas
  • Developing the water market and water pricing in different secto

Relying on the professional and experienced engineers, university professors, and qualified specialists as well as having access to the facilities of the country’s top universities, especially Sharif University of Technology, the department of environment tries to take small but steady steps to solve the country’s environmental problems by providing the environmental studies, models and assessment analyses using the latest methods in the world. Some of the services provided by the department of environment are:

  • Conducting Environmental Impact Assessment of the projects (EIA)
  • Developing of the water, air and soil pollution models
  • Conducing the studies on situation recognition (SR) and Spatial Planning (SP)
  • Conducting the environmental studies using remote sensing tools and geographic information systems (RS & GIS)
  • Providing the Environmental Management Program (EMP)
  • Estimating the Payments for ecosystem services (PES)
  • Implementing the pollution reduction projects
  • Implementing the projects for strengthening participation of local communities

Using remote sensing technology has made it possible to acquire a wide spectral information of a region over a wide range of temporal and spatial scales with less time and cost compared to ground-based data collection. The remote sensing department has the objective to meet some of the country’s research needs and develop remote sensing applications for water resources and environment management. Some of the services provided by the remote sensing department are:

  • Monitoring and assessing snow cover, vegetation and desertification changes
  • Assessing the quantitative and qualitative changes in water of the lakes and the seas
  • Evaluating the effects of drought and water pollution
  • Estimating the evaporation rate from the water surface
  • Estimating the evapotranspiration rate in the irrigated lands
  • Identifying dust sources
  • Identifying and assessing water resources and consumption in the basin
  • Identifying land use/cover and crop type changes

The experience of participating in the national Urmia Lake Restoration Program with its vast thematic scope and a large number of produced written and multimedia contents, revealed a new and often overlooked necessity that became the initial spark led ABOPA to form a new department. In addition, developing distance education capacities as well as media production skills and techniques during COVID-19 pandemic by attracting skilled employees and acquiring special tools, provided valuable experiences. Some of the services provided by the education and documentation department are:

  • Knowledge management and documentation
  • Public Relations management
  • Cyberspace management
  • Management and implementation of oral and written historiography projects
  • Management and implementation of audio and video media production services (podcasts, documentaries, video clips, motion graphics, etc.)
  • Providing all services for holding face-to-face and online workshops and training courses
  • Providing all services for holding conferences, seminars and onsite and online events at regional, national and international levels
